POLICE NAB SUSPECTED RITUALIST ALLEGEDLY ASSISTING ROBBERS IN AKWA IBOM
A suspected ritualist, identified as Cletus Bassey, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for allegedly supplying charms to armed robbers.
The Command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, revealed in a statement on Friday that Bassey was apprehended on July 29, 2025, around 7 p.m. at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, located in Uruan Local Government Area.
Preliminary findings reportedly link the 30-year-old to ritual practices involving the distribution of native charms and materials believed to repel bullets for criminal gangs.
According to the police spokesperson, “On July 29, 2025, at about 6:51 p.m., officers acting on credible intelligence arrested one Cletus Effiong Bassey at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, Uruan LGA. He is suspected of engaging in rituals and providing charms and bulletproof concoctions to armed robbers.”
A search of his premises also led to the discovery of a locally fabricated single-barrel gun.
The investigation is said to be ongoing.
