The Kano State Police Command has arrested three men accused of impersonating security personnel and defrauding a victim of more than one million naira.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Thursday, September 4, 2025. He revealed that the suspects tricked the victim, Salisu Ibrahim, into believing they had “special abilities” to assist him, before duping him of ₦1,030,000.

The suspects were identified as:

Nasiru Adamu, 30, from Sokoto State

Yusuf Sani, 49, from Daura LGA, Katsina State

Aliyu Yusuf, 25, also from Daura LGA, Katsina State

According to the police, the trio was arrested on September 2, around 1:30 PM, at Danagundi Quarters, Kano, following a distress call from the victim. Investigations revealed that they posed as security personnel, instructed the victim to bring money to a designated location, and promised further instructions through a whispered message.

Acting swiftly, police operatives—supported by community members—apprehended the suspects before they could escape. The case is still under investigation, and the suspects will be charged to court once the process is completed.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the quick response of the officers and thanked the public for their cooperation. He urged anyone who may have fallen victim to similar schemes to come forward and assist with investigations.

“The Police remain committed to protecting lives and property across Kano State,” Bakori assured. “We call on residents to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and continue supporting the fight against crime.”

The Command also encouraged the public to make use of its emergency numbers and ongoing Operation Kukan Kura to help strengthen security in the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
