The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers accused of being part of a car-snatching syndicate that preys on Uber drivers in Ibadan.

The suspects, identified as Tunde Bukola and Moyowa Faleye, were apprehended at Liberty Road in the early hours of August 26, 2025.

According to reports, the duo had been on the radar of security operatives after several complaints from drivers who claimed they lured them to isolated locations before robbing them of their vehicles.

Their latest attempt backfired after neighbourhood watchmen raised the alarm, leading to swift police intervention. A surveillance team tracked them after one of the suspects used a known “red flag” number, 09036731930, to order a ride.

A source disclosed that the men panicked and attempted to flee the vehicle when they realized they had been set up, but they were quickly overpowered and arrested.

During the arrest, police recovered a bicycle handle, which the suspects allegedly used as an improvised weapon to intimidate victims.

So far, at least two victims have come forward to identify Bukola and Faleye as the robbers who previously dispossessed them of their cars.

Police say investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate and recover stolen vehicles linked to the gang.
