The Taraba State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a raid in Gassol Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, James Lashen Saminu, said in a statement on Friday that the operation took place at about 10:00 a.m. on August 13, 2025. Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, working alongside local hunters, stormed a suspected kidnapper’s hideout in Mahadi Forest.

The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Yahaya Umar from Gamu village and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar from Belango village, Karim-Lamido LGA. Both reportedly confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate operating across Plateau and Taraba states.

Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, commended the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

She urged residents to continue providing credible information to help security agencies combat crime in every part of the state.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
