POLICE RECOVER GOLD BURIED BY VICTIM OF BOKO HARAM ATTACK
Police in Borno State have recovered gold reportedly worth N23.6 million, which a woman buried in Mallamfatori, Abadam local government area, 15 years ago while fleeing a Boko Haram attack.
The woman explained that she hid the gold in the sand before leaving the town. Upon her recent return, she approached the police for assistance in locating the items.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, said officers conducted a search based on her description. The operation led to the recovery of “22cc of gold valued at about N20 million” and “a gold bracelet with a chain worth N3.6 million.”
The police noted that the incident highlights how insurgency forced many residents to abandon their possessions while escaping violence.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid praised the Mallamfatori Divisional Police Officer and his team for demonstrating “honesty, professionalism, and integrity.” He said their efforts reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force and help foster public trust.
CP Abdulmajid also reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to collaborate with the police to enhance security in the state.
