POLICE THWART ATTEMPT TO STEAL BAUCHI EMIRATE COUNCIL VEHICLE
The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully prevented the theft of a Toyota Hilux belonging to the Bauchi Emirate Council.
The incident occurred on January 5, 2026, when Buhari Musa Umar, a staff member of the Emirate Council, alerted a police patrol at the Jos Road Roundabout. He explained that the vehicle had been parked at Inkiya Filling Station while the driver briefly stopped to purchase fuel.
The driver, who was on official duty delivering messages from the Emir to Ganjuwa Local Government Area, reportedly stepped away momentarily to use the restroom. During this brief pause, an unidentified individual attempted to drive off with the vehicle.
Confirming the development in a statement on Tuesday, Public Relations Officer Nafiu Habib said officers quickly responded to the distress call and pursued the suspect. The stolen Hilux was later recovered in the Bayan Gari area, where the suspect was also apprehended.
SP Habib added that the suspect confessed to the crime during questioning. He further stated that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be formally arraigned in court once inquiries are completed.
