In a dramatic political maneuver that could redefine Cross River State’s political landscape, no fewer than ten opposition parties have officially formed a coalition to oust incumbent Governor Senator Bassey Otu in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The historic alliance was sealed following a high-stakes meeting held in Calabar, where leaders of the ten political parties unanimously agreed to close ranks against what they described as the "failings" of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. Criticizing the state's leadership for a perceived decline in governance, the coalition issued a stern warning against the entrenchment of one-party rule and called for urgent reforms centered on transparency, accountability, and genuine democratic practices.

According to a statement signed by Rev. Omaleko Efut Omaleko, Director of Communication and Strategy for the coalition and APGA State Chairman, the group vowed to resist any attempts by the APC to "suffocate democracy" in Cross River State.

Among the parties forming this formidable alliance are the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), Allied People’s Movement (APM), Boot Party (BP), alongside representatives from the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) and the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).
