Public Relations professionals in Nigeria are intensifying calls for greater representation and strategic influence in corporate boardrooms.

The push was a major highlight at the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) annual conference held on Friday in Lagos.

NIPR leaders argued that PR should no longer be viewed as a mere support function but as a critical strategic partner in organisational decision-making.

“Effective reputation management and stakeholder engagement must be part of board-level conversations. PR deserves a seat at the table,” a senior practitioner stated.

Participants stressed that including communication experts in boardrooms would enhance crisis preparedness, brand building, and long-term sustainability for businesses operating in Nigeria’s dynamic environment.

The institute pledged to continue advocacy efforts and professional development programmes aimed at elevating the status of PR practitioners in the corporate sector.
