PRAYERS, NOT MONEY WON US OSUN POLL — DR DEJI ADELEKE
The elder brother of Osun State Governor, Adedeji Adeleke, has said the family’s victory over former governor Gboyega Oyetola in the Osun governorship election was achieved through prayers rather than superior financial resources.
Speaking at a ceremony celebrating his brother’s victory, Adeleke said the family did not defeat Oyetola because they were wealthier or spent more money during the election.
He claimed that despite reports that the opposition spent as much as ₦60 billion during the election, with some voters allegedly offered up to ₦50,000 per vote, the outcome was ultimately determined by divine intervention.
Adeleke said that after hearing about the alleged level of spending on election day, he returned to his room and prayed that voters would collect the money offered to them but still vote for Ademola Adeleke.
He said, “God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke.”
The businessman explained that he had maintained a consistent prayer routine before the election, including reading specific Bible passages.
He particularly mentioned Isaiah 41, which he said formed part of his daily spiritual practice and testimony.
Adeleke maintained that the family’s victory was therefore not a result of having more money than their opponents but what he described as the power of prayer and divine intervention.
