Commander-in-Chief acts on the recommendation of the Minister of Interior to address the succession gap and allow the governing board adequate time to select successors

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The announcement was conveyed in an official statement issued on October 19, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Under the approved extension, Controller-General Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Comptroller-General Nandap will serve until June 30, 2028.

The presidency explained that the decision followed formal recommendations submitted by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aimed at addressing potential succession gaps within both paramilitary agencies and providing the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board sufficient window to conduct seamless recruitment processes for future leadership.

President Tinubu commended both security chiefs for the structural, operational, and technological reforms achieved under their respective tenures, charging them to consolidate operational stability and secure national assets over the course of their extended terms.
