PSC DISOWNS FAKE RECRUITMENT NOTICE CLAIMING POSTINGS UNDER ‘STATE POLICE ACT 2026

The Police Service Commission has dismissed as fake a viral press release claiming that successful Nigeria Police Force recruits would be posted only to their states of origin under a purported State Police Act 2026.

In a disclaimer issued on Friday and signed by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, the commission said the document circulating on social media, which also announced a medical screening exercise scheduled for July 16 to 22 and the activation of a portal on July 14 for printing medical slips, did not emanate from the commission.

The PSC described the publication as the handiwork of fraudsters and urged members of the public to disregard it.

The commission stated, “This press release is fake and was not issued by the Police Service Commission.

“The said publication, which also makes reference to a purported ‘State Police’ Act 2026 and postings to states of origin, is the handiwork of fraudsters and should be completely disregarded.”

The PSC explained that it held a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, July 9, with officials from the commission, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Character Commission and the Ministry of Police Affairs to discuss the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

According to the commission, an official statement on the outcome of the meeting and the next phase of the recruitment process will be released in due course.

“The Commission will issue an official statement in due course on the outcome of the meeting and the next phase of the recruitment exercise into the Nigeria Police Force. All candidates and members of the public are advised to await this official communication,” it stated.

The PSC advised applicants to rely only on information published through its verified communication channels, including its official website, recruitment portal, email address and social media accounts.

It also reiterated that the police recruitment exercise remains free of charge and warned candidates against falling victim to fraudsters.

“Recruitment is free. The Commission does not charge any fees at any stage of the process.

“Candidates are strongly advised to avoid misinformation and rely only on official communication from the PSC.

“Anyone found circulating fake press releases or engaging in fraudulent activities will face severe legal consequences,” the statement added.
