Kano State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji (Dr) Ali Haruna Makoda, has emphasized that quality education cannot be achieved without qualified and competent teachers, describing them as the backbone of any successful education system.

He reaffirmed the state government’s strong commitment to revamping the education sector through effective quality assurance mechanisms.

Speaking during the opening of a Stakeholders’ Sensitisation Meeting on the National Education Quality Assurance Policy held at the Kano Capital School conference hall, Dr Makoda highlighted the administration’s efforts to educate stakeholders on the significance of quality assurance at both basic and post-basic levels.

He noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration has launched several initiatives to protect and enhance the education sector, with the stakeholders’ meeting serving as one of many strategies aimed at maintaining educational standards across the state.

“This meeting on quality assurance is timely, especially considering this administration’s focus on ensuring both teacher and education quality,” Makoda said.

He reiterated that no society can attain educational excellence without investing in quality teachers and added that Governor Yusuf’s passion for education is evident in his policies and budgetary decisions.

Dr Makoda revealed that the governor has shown unwavering dedication to education by not only declaring a state of emergency in the sector but also by consistently allocating a significant portion of the state budget to it. “In 2024, 29.75% of the budget was allocated to education, and in 2025, it increased to 31.5%. This clearly demonstrates the administration’s commitment,” he stated.

He further announced that new programmes aimed at building teachers’ capacity through modern instructional methods are in the pipeline.

Dr Makoda acknowledged the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service for its support and encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training, emphasizing that education is the foundation of development.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed, noted that attendees were drawn from various parastatals under the ministry and other key sectors. He praised Governor Yusuf for his relentless efforts to rejuvenate education in the state.

Key presentations at the event included a paper on the “General Overview of the National Education Quality Assurance Policy and its Strategic Priorities” by Alhaji Bello Rabeh, Director of the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service. Additional papers were delivered by Alhaji Saidu Mohammed and Abdu Danladi Mohammed on “Stakeholders’ Contributions” and “Capacity Building Initiatives for State Education Quality Assurance,” respectively.

Participants commended the programme, stating that it broadened their understanding of quality assurance in education.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
