RECKLESS DRIVER PLOUGHS INTO CROWD IN JIGAWA, SIX DEAD, 12 INJURED
Tragedy struck in Jigawa State on Sunday when a speeding driver lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into a crowd, killing six people and leaving 12 others injured.
The horrific accident occurred around 3:00 pm along the Ringim–Dutse road in Yakasawa village, Ringim Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said the victims, including pregnant women and children, had gathered to welcome the Governor, who was on his way to attend a popular citizens’ engagement event known as Gwamnati da Jana’s.
According to reports, three victims died instantly at the scene, while another three succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The injured were rushed to Ringim General Hospital, with some later transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ringim Unit Commander, CRC Ado Adamu, confirmed the incident, stating that the driver — operating a grey Golf car with registration number FKJ 102BB — was driving recklessly before losing control.
Authorities have reiterated the need for drivers to exercise caution, especially in areas with large gatherings, to avoid such devastating loss of lives.
This incident has left the community in deep shock, turning what was meant to be a day of celebration into one of mourning.
