REJECTED AT HOME, WELCOMED ABROAD: FAVOUR OFILI SET TO REPRESENT TURKEY IN ATHLETICS
Nigerian sprint star Favour Ofili has initiated the process to change her sporting nationality to Turkey.
Ofili’s decision comes amid frustrations over alleged consistent neglect and administrative lapses by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC).
A key turning point was the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the 22-year-old was left out of the 100m event despite meeting the qualification mark. This mirrored a similar incident at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where a bureaucratic error also cost her a spot.
She has now officially informed the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of her intention to switch allegiance, citing these recurring issues as her reason.
Regarded as one of Nigeria’s top talents, Ofili holds impressive personal records of 10.93 seconds in the 100m and 21.96 seconds in the 200m.
