RENEWED HOPE FOOTPRINTS VISIBLE IN RAIL, ROADS AND AGRIC PROJECTS IN KANO AND JIGAWA

Major infrastructure projects under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda are taking shape in Kano and Jigawa states, bringing new hope for better transport, trade, and farming in Nigeria’s northwest.

One of the flagship projects is the Kaduna-Kano-Katsina-Maradi railway line. This ambitious standard gauge rail project, which will link several northern states with Niger Republic, has reached advanced stages in both Kano and Jigawa. The Jigawa section is almost complete, while work on the broader corridor stands at about 60 percent. Officials say key parts, including the Kano to Dutse branch, are on track for substantial completion by the end of 2026.

The rail line is expected to make movement of goods, especially agricultural produce, faster and cheaper. It will also boost cross-border trade and create jobs along the route. A flyover bridge in Kaduna linked to the project is also progressing and scheduled for completion in December 2026.

Road infrastructure is also receiving attention. Sections of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway have seen significant work, including concrete pavement and solar-powered streetlights. Other road projects, such as the Kano-Kongolam road and various federal highways linking Kano with Jigawa and Katsina, are either ongoing or nearing completion. These roads are easing movement for people and goods across the region.

In agriculture, several intervention projects are helping farmers. These include irrigation schemes in Garko and other areas, as well as an agricultural incubation centre at Bayero University in Kano. The projects aim to improve food production, support smallholder farmers, and make farming more modern and productive in a region known for its agricultural potential.

Renewed Hope Ambassadors, who recently toured the projects, described them as clear evidence of the federal government’s commitment to the North. They noted that the Northwest zone has benefited from 48 out of 260 special intervention projects across the country.

For residents of Kano and Jigawa, these developments mean easier travel, better market access for farmers, and new economic opportunities. Traders, transporters, and young people in the area are already looking forward to the impact once the projects are fully completed.

The projects form part of the federal government’s broader push to fix infrastructure gaps and support economic growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Work continues on the sites, with contractors mobilising more resources to meet timelines.

Many in the two states say they are beginning to see the benefits of these investments in their daily lives.
