REPORT: TRUMP CONSIDERING CLOSURE OF U.S. EMBASSIES ACROSS AFRICA.
The Donald Trump administration is reportedly considering the closure of nearly 30 U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide, including several across Africa, in a major effort to scale back America’s diplomatic footprint.
According to a CNN report published Wednesday, citing an internal U.S. State Department document, proposed closures include embassies in the Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Lesotho, and South Sudan. A U.S. consulate in South Africa is also said to be on the list:
“The document recommends closing 10 embassies and 17 consulates. Many of the posts are in Europe and Africa, though they also include locations in Asia and the Caribbean. These include embassies in Malta, Luxembourg, Lesotho, the Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan. The list also includes five consulates in France, two in Germany, two in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one in the United Kingdom, one in South Africa, and one in South Korea.”
An internal document reveals that the Trump administration is looking to cut back U.S. involvement in countries like Somalia and Iraq, both of which have played key roles in America’s counterterrorism efforts.
This move is part of a broader plan—reportedly influenced by the Elon Musk-backed Department of Government Efficiency—to reduce the size of federal agencies and lower government spending, with the State Department being a major focus.
Although, there has been no confirmation that proposal has received approval yet.
