The House of Representatives has announced the death of one of its members, Muhammad Hassan, who represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State.

 

Hassan, who served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, died on Friday evening, April 10, 2026, in Abuja after a period of illness. He was 66 years old.

 

His death was confirmed in a statement issued by House Spokesman Akin Rotimi, who described him as a distinguished legislator with deep institutional experience and strong contributions to Nigeria’s legislative development.

 

According to the statement, Hassan previously served within the National Assembly bureaucracy, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary before joining partisan politics in 2023 under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

 

The House noted that he made significant contributions to committees on Judiciary, Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, and constitutional matters, earning respect for his professionalism and consensus-building approach.

 

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, extended condolences to the deceased’s family, constituents, and the government and people of Kano State.

 

Hassan is expected to be buried on Saturday in accordance with Islamic rites.
