RESIDENT DOCTORS TO RESUME STRIKE ON JANUARY 12

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced plans to resume an indefinite strike starting January 12, 2026.

The decision follows resolutions from NARD’s Emergency National Executive Council meeting held on Friday, aimed at pressing the government to meet the association’s demands.

In addition to the strike, NARD has scheduled nationwide protests to highlight unresolved issues affecting doctors’ welfare, with demonstrations planned at hospitals across the country.

The update was shared in a statement on X, signed by NARD President Dr. Mohammad Suleiman.

Last week, the association warned of a potential nationwide shutdown of medical services, citing the Federal Government’s failure to implement a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed with the doctors.

According to NARD, the strike is the result of repeated delays by the Federal Ministry of Health and the government in fulfilling obligations outlined in the MoU.

The association had earlier suspended its indefinite strike on November 29 after 29 days of industrial action, following the signing of the MoU, which committed the government to address NARD’s demands within four weeks.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
