Residents of Yaba Community in Odode Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, have appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene in the revival of abandoned development projects in the area.

The appeal was contained in a petition jointly signed by community leaders, including Chief Adegoke Boluwaji, Fola Adeghate, and Olagidi Akinyode, who lamented that several multi-billion-naira projects initiated in 2024 have been left uncompleted.

According to the residents, the affected projects include the Odode–Bajare Road, Ojota-Ala Road, and a World Bank/Ondo State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project market at Yaba/Ojotu. They noted that the projects were meant to improve rural mobility, boost trade, and enhance economic opportunities in the community.

The petition stated that the road projects have become impassable, severely hindering the movement of people and goods, while the market project has stalled due to disputes between contractors. Residents said the conflict led to the forceful removal of the original contractor, halting construction activities.

“This situation is unacceptable… it undermines public confidence and jeopardises the welfare of thousands of residents,” the petition read.

The community urged the governor to visit the project sites, resolve the contractor issues, and ensure the resumption and completion of the projects. They also called for the establishment of a monitoring committee to guarantee transparency and accountability.

Responding to the concerns, the governor’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communications, Allen Sowore, assured that the matter would be brought to the governor’s attention, reiterating that the administration remains committed to ensuring that no project in the state is abandoned.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
