RETIREES STAGE PROTEST, DEMAND N32,000 PENSION BENEFITS, OTHERS
A group of retirees has staged a peaceful protest over what they described as inadequate pension payments, demanding an upward review of their monthly benefits to ₦32,000 and improved welfare conditions.
The protest, held in a yet-to-be-disclosed location, saw elderly citizens carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs as they called on government authorities to urgently address their long-standing grievances.
According to the retirees, current pension payments are no longer sufficient to cope with rising living costs, including food, healthcare, and transportation expenses.
They argued that many pensioners are struggling to survive after years of service to the country, urging both federal and state governments to prioritise their welfare.
Some of the protesters also complained about delays and irregularities in pension payments, describing the situation as unfair and unsustainable.
The retirees called for immediate reforms in the pension administration system, including better funding, prompt payment schedules, and periodic reviews to reflect economic realities.
They appealed to the government to treat their demands with urgency, stressing that many of their colleagues are facing serious hardship.
Security personnel were reportedly present to maintain order during the demonstration, which remained largely peaceful.
The retirees vowed to continue pressing for their demands until concrete action is taken to improve their welfare and living conditions.
