Former Lagos governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has reaffirmed his loyalty to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), distancing himself from the growing wave of defections shaking Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

In a statement on Tuesday, Rhodes-Vivour acknowledged the ongoing political realignments but said he respects those who have chosen to leave for other platforms, including the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

“We are in a turbulent political moment,” he noted, adding that while others may chart new paths, his decision to remain in the ADC is rooted in conviction rather than convenience.

He described the party as a platform he has helped build and believes still holds strong potential for future electoral success.

Rhodes-Vivour also reflected on his political journey across different parties, insisting that his decisions have always been guided by principle and not personal gain.

He further stressed that he has never aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming he rejected offers that conflicted with his values.

The politician highlighted the importance of grassroots organisation and discipline in Nigerian politics, especially when it comes to protecting electoral mandates.

His stance comes amid major shifts within the opposition, with key figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso recently aligning with the NDC.

Despite the changes, Rhodes-Vivour maintained that strengthening structures at the local level remains crucial, particularly in Lagos, where opposition forces continue efforts to challenge the dominance of the APC.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
