Former England and Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has revealed the Red Devils players he believes are good enough to make it into Manchester City’s star-studded squad.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ferdinand admitted that City currently have a stronger team than United but singled out four players he feels could hold their own under Pep Guardiola.

According to him, Bruno Fernandes, Leny Yoro, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha have the quality to compete for places in City’s starting XI.

“Bruno. I put Leny Yoro in there. I think he is going to be a standout this year. Mbeumo probably gets in there now. Cunha might have a chance,” Ferdinand said.

The 46-year-old, however, acknowledged the gap between both Manchester clubs, stressing that City’s squad depth and quality remain superior at the moment.

“At the moment City have got a better squad than us, I think that is a fact. I don’t think many people would argue with that. That is just the way it is right now,” he added.

Ferdinand’s comments highlight the challenge facing Erik ten Hag as he tries to close the gap on Guardiola’s side, who remain the benchmark in English football.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
