RIVERS ADC CANDIDATE CALLS FOR ISSUE-BASED POLITICS
The African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State, Gabriel Pidomson, has called for a political environment where voters can freely choose their leaders without undue influence.
Pidomson made the remarks while speaking about his campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state. The ADC presented him as its Rivers governorship candidate in September as part of its preparations for the poll.
He said Rivers State should be treated as belonging to its people and not controlled by any individual or political group.
The candidate called for greater attention to issues affecting residents, including governance, economic development, security and public services.
Pidomson also urged political actors to allow voters to make their choices without intimidation or pressure.
He said political campaigns should focus on policies and programmes that address the needs of Rivers residents rather than personal interests.
The ADC candidate is among those expected to contest the Rivers governorship election scheduled for February 6, 2027. INEC has published the particulars of candidates participating in the election.
Pidomson, a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, emerged as the ADC candidate after the party’s governorship primary in May 2026.
The ADC has said its candidates should conduct issue-based campaigns and reject hate speech, violence and other actions that could undermine the electoral process.
