Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State have purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The move was announced by a delegation led by a member of the House of Representatives, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, who said the decision was taken in the interest of the Rivers people.

He described the gesture as a reflection of confidence in the governor’s leadership and a collective desire for continuity.

According to him, the move aligns with political traditions where stakeholders support preferred candidates through such initiatives.

Abiante stressed that the decision was not driven by financial considerations but by the will of the people.

He pointed to ongoing infrastructure development, improved access to riverine communities, and growing economic opportunities as indicators of the governor’s performance.

He cited areas such as Andoni, where access challenges have reportedly been addressed, allowing communities to participate more actively in economic activities.

The lawmaker also referenced the rehabilitation of key public infrastructure and improvements in citizens’ welfare.

He described the governor as a responsive and people-oriented leader who understands the needs of residents.

Abiante maintained that Fubara neither initiated nor influenced the purchase of the forms, noting that the gesture was entirely the decision of party stakeholders.

The forms are expected to be presented to the governor.

The development comes amid political realignments in Rivers State following the fallout between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, which led to divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party.

Fubara later defected to the APC and has since been consolidating support ahead of the next election cycle.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
