RWANDA ADVANCES DIGITAL INCLUSION WITH COMPLETION OF KOICA-FUNDED ICT PROJECT
Rwanda has completed a major ICT development project funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), strengthening its efforts to promote digital inclusion across the country.
The project, which focused on expanding digital infrastructure and building ICT skills, was officially commissioned in Kigali. It includes the establishment of modern digital training centres, improved internet connectivity to schools and public institutions, and comprehensive digital literacy programmes targeting youth, women, and rural communities.
This initiative is expected to bridge the digital divide by providing more Rwandans with access to reliable internet, digital tools, and relevant skills. It will support key areas such as e-learning, e-government services, digital entrepreneurship, and telemedicine.
The Rwandan government expressed gratitude to the Republic of Korea for its partnership and technical support. Officials noted that the project aligns with Rwanda’s National Digital Transformation Strategy and its long-term goal of becoming a knowledge-based economy.
KOICA’s support reflects South Korea’s commitment to sharing its own successful digital development model with African countries. Rwanda has been one of the agency’s key partners in digital cooperation on the continent.
For many citizens, particularly in rural areas, the project offers new opportunities for education, business, and access to public services. The training programmes are also expected to equip thousands of young Rwandans with skills needed for the digital job market.
This achievement further solidifies Rwanda’s position as one of Africa’s leading countries in digital innovation and inclusive technology adoption. The government has indicated that more digital infrastructure projects are planned in the coming years to ensure broader access and participation in the digital economy.
