Mohamed Salah was named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year for the third time on Friday, following his pivotal role in Liverpool’s charge to a historic 20th English league title.

The Egyptian forward delivered an outstanding season, netting 28 goals and providing 18 assists in the Premier League.

His performance set a new record for the highest number of goal involvements in a 38-game Premier League season, helping Arne Slot’s side clinch their first league title since 2020.

Salah claimed nearly 90 percent of the votes cast by football writers — the largest margin of victory in the 21st century. Salah, who also claimed the award in 2017-18 and 2021-22, has now matched Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as one of only two players to win it three times. The 32-year-old recently committed his future to Liverpool by penning a new two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Salah’s decision to stay with Liverpool strengthens their chances of securing a record 21st league title next season, as they look to surpass Manchester United as the most successful club in England’s top-flight history.

In the women’s category, Alessia Russo of Arsenal took home the award, becoming the second player from the club to do so, finishing ahead of last year’s winner, Khadija Shaw.
