Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s firm stance against any form of assault on officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), declaring that offenders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Speaking through his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, at the Second Lagos Traffic Conference held to commemorate LASTMA’s 25th anniversary, the governor emphasized the importance of protecting the agency's personnel, who are crucial to maintaining order on the roads.

Themed “Enhancing Traffic Efficiency and Safety on Lagos Roads: Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations,” the event highlighted both the progress and future direction of traffic management in the state.

Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the dedication and perseverance of LASTMA officers, acknowledging the difficult and sometimes dangerous conditions under which they work.

“I deeply appreciate the men and women of LASTMA, whose unwavering dedication keeps Lagos moving. Your uniform represents the thin yellow line that separates order from chaos on our roads,” he said. “Your bravery and professionalism are the foundation of traffic safety in our city.”

He also paid tribute to officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, honoring their service and sacrifice as enduring legacies.

Looking ahead, the governor shared plans to transition LASTMA into a more technology-driven organization, better equipped to handle the growing demands of urban mobility.

He noted that the state government is investing in cutting-edge traffic technologies such as AI-powered systems, automated number plate recognition, and drone-based surveillance tools. These innovations aim to improve traffic management, enable real-time monitoring, and enhance emergency response across Lagos.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
