SANWO-OLU GIVES LAGOS POLICE FREE TRANSPORT ACCESS FOR THREE MONTHS

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has provided members of the Lagos State Police Command with 2,000 Cowry Cards to enable them to enjoy free transportation across the state for three months. The gesture is aimed at supporting police officers and easing the financial pressure associated with their daily movement while carrying out their duties.

The Cowry Cards were presented to the police as part of the state government’s efforts to support security personnel and recognise their contribution to maintaining law and order across Lagos. The initiative will allow the beneficiaries to access designated public transportation services without paying fares during the three-month period covered by the cards.

The gesture is also expected to improve the mobility of police personnel, particularly officers who depend on public transportation to move between their homes, duty posts and other locations. With transportation costs continuing to place pressure on residents, the state government considers the intervention a way of providing some relief to officers while supporting their operational responsibilities.

The provision of the cards comes as the Lagos Government continues to promote the use of its integrated public transportation system and digital payment platforms. The Cowry Card is used by passengers to pay fares on participating public transport services across the state, providing a cashless option for commuters.

The three-month free transport arrangement is expected to benefit the 2,000 police officers who received the cards and further strengthen the relationship between the Lagos State Government and the security agencies operating in the state. The initiative highlights the government’s efforts to provide welfare support for personnel involved in protecting residents and maintaining security across Lagos.
