SANWO-OLU GIVES REASON FOR DELAY IN OPENING OJOTA-OPEBI LINK BRIDGE

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has explained why the long-awaited Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge has yet to be opened to motorists, despite the completion of major construction works on the project. The bridge is expected to improve connectivity between Ojota, Opebi and surrounding areas while providing motorists with an alternative route and helping to reduce pressure on some major roads in the affected parts of Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu said the delay was linked to the need to complete certain finishing works and ensure that the infrastructure meets the required safety and operational standards before it is opened to the public. He explained that the government was not interested in rushing the opening simply for the sake of commissioning the project, stressing that all necessary components must be properly completed before motorists are allowed to use the bridge.

The governor noted that projects of this nature involve several stages beyond the main construction work, including road connections, drainage, lighting, traffic management and other supporting infrastructure. According to him, the state government wants to ensure that the entire corridor is ready to function effectively so that opening the bridge does not create new challenges for residents and motorists using the area.

The Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is one of the infrastructure projects being developed by the Lagos State Government as part of efforts to improve transportation and road connectivity across the state. The route is expected to provide an important link between communities and major business districts, potentially reducing travel time for motorists who currently depend on existing roads around Ojota, Opebi, Mende and surrounding areas.

Sanwo-Olu assured Lagos residents that the government remains committed to completing the outstanding works and opening the bridge once all necessary requirements have been met. He said the decision to delay the opening was aimed at ensuring that residents get a properly completed and safe infrastructure that can serve its intended purpose rather than opening the facility prematurely.
