Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on the youth to maintain peace and order during Saturday’s local government elections, cautioning against any form of violence or unrest.

In a message shared via his X account on Friday, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the critical role of young people in democracy, urging them to participate in a calm, constructive, and responsible manner.

“Our youths must avoid violence and serve as ambassadors of peace and democratic values,” the governor stated.

He described the July 12 elections as a vital moment for Lagos residents to influence the development of their communities by choosing local leaders committed to grassroots progress.

“The local government is the tier of governance closest to the people. It delivers essential services and drives community-level development. By voting for Chairmen and councillors, Lagosians can help shape effective leadership at this level,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He further emphasized that the election is not only a civic duty but also a powerful platform for expressing the will of the people. “It is your right. I encourage every eligible voter to participate peacefully, cast their vote, and contribute to strengthening our communities and our state.”

To ensure a safe voting environment, the governor announced that security agencies would be strategically deployed across polling units and neighborhoods.

“Security personnel will be on ground to safeguard voters, election officials, and materials,” he assured, adding that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) is fully prepared for the polls.

Sanwo-Olu also appealed to political parties, candidates, and their agents to act with fairness, uphold the rule of law, and maintain peace throughout the process.

Reiterating his administration’s dedication to a transparent and credible election, he concluded: “Let us once again show that Lagos is a beacon of peace, progress, and democratic participation.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
