SDP CAUTIONS NIGERIANS: AVOID DEALING WITH SUSPENDED CHAIRMAN, AUDITOR, YOUTH LEADER

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has sounded a strong warning to Nigerians, urging them not to engage with three of its top officials who have been suspended over allegations of financial misconduct and constitutional breaches.

In a statement released on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, revealed that the National Working Committee (NWC) had approved the suspension of the SDP National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gaba, National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, and National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Uchechukwu.

The decision was reached at an NWC meeting held on June 24, 2025, after members reviewed what they described as strong preliminary evidence of financial mismanagement, misconduct, and breaches of the party’s constitution.

According to the party, the suspension is effective immediately under the powers granted to the NWC by the SDP Constitution (2022 as amended). The party clarified that the suspension will remain in place pending the outcome of investigations by its disciplinary committee and ongoing probes by law enforcement agencies into alleged fraud, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds dating from 2022 to 2025.

“These individuals are being investigated for their roles in conspiracy, fraud, misappropriation, and gross constitutional violations,” the statement read.

The party further disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been formally notified of the suspensions and had acknowledged receipt of the communication.

As a result, the SDP cautioned the general public—especially political stakeholders—not to enter into any transactions, alliances, or agreements with the suspended officials, as they no longer have the mandate to represent the party in any capacity.

The decision to suspend the officials was endorsed by a majority of NWC members, whose signatures were attached to the resolution document.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, discipline, and accountability, the SDP stressed that the move was essential to protect the party’s integrity and to ensure it remains strong and credible ahead of the 2027 general elections.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
