The South East Development Commission has shortlisted 210 startups to advance to the next stage of its Venture Capital Programme, following a competitive selection process across the South-East region.

According to the commission, over 1,200 startups applied for the programme, reflecting growing entrepreneurial activity in states including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.

Of the selected startups, 128 are in the Incubator Track while 82 are in the Accelerator Track, covering both early-stage ideas and more developed businesses with market traction.

SEDC said the selection was based on criteria such as innovation, market potential, execution strength, and revenue performance where applicable.

The shortlisted startups will now proceed to a video pitch stage to assess readiness for scale and leadership capacity.

The programme will conclude with a final pitch event scheduled for May 25, 2026, followed by an investment ceremony on May 26, where successful startups will receive funding and support.

The commission said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem and promote technology-driven economic growth.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
