SENATE SAYS NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN STILL SUSPENDED PENDING COURT RULING

The Nigerian Senate has rejected Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s request to resume her legislative duties, insisting that her suspension remains in effect until the Court of Appeal rules on her case.

In a letter signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Senate confirmed it had received the senator’s notice stating her plan to resume on September 4, 2025, which she argued marked the end of her six-month suspension.

However, the Senate clarified that her suspension officially began on March 6, 2025, and stressed that the case is already before the Court of Appeal, making it sub judice (under judicial consideration).

“The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded, no administrative action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter read.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, was suspended in March after being accused of breaching Senate standing orders. Although the Federal High Court in Abuja upheld the suspension, she has since challenged the decision at the appellate court.

For now, the Senate says it will only revisit her suspension after the Court of Appeal delivers its judgment.
