SEUN KUTI: NIGERIAN POLITICIANS, NOT YAHOO BOYS, TARNISH OUR IMAGE ABROAD

Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has openly criticized Nigerian politicians, insisting they are the real reason why the country struggles with respect on the global stage.

Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Kuti dismissed the widespread belief that internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as Yahoo boys, are responsible for Nigeria’s negative image abroad.

According to him, the world does not judge a nation by the actions of its worst citizens but by how its most visible and influential figures—politicians and leaders—conduct themselves.

“Oh, because of Yahoo boys, they don’t respect Nigerians? That narrative is wrong,” Kuti said.

“We know fully well that the only reason nobody respects Nigeria is because of our politicians. Nobody judges a country by its worst people. Every country is judged by the behavior of its most prominent people.”

He emphasized that until Nigerian politicians begin to act with integrity and represent the nation responsibly, citizens will continue to face global disrespect, regardless of the actions of a few fraudsters.

Kuti’s remarks have since sparked fresh conversations about leadership, accountability, and the role of Nigeria’s political elite in shaping international perception.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
