The Benue State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with the recent abduction of passengers in Otukpo.

The incident, which occurred on April 15, triggered a swift response from security agencies. According to the command’s spokesperson, Edet Udeme, the arrests were made during a joint security operation involving police and other agencies.

The operation, which focused on Amla Forest and surrounding areas, also led to the rescue of some victims, who are currently receiving medical attention. However, authorities did not disclose the exact number of those rescued.

“Further intelligence led to the arrest of seven suspects who are now in custody, while investigations continue,” Udeme stated.

The police also addressed circulating misinformation, clarifying that the victims were not students traveling for the UTME, as previously reported in some quarters. Instead, they were passengers in a bus heading to Makurdi.

The Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, assured residents that efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and bring all those involved to justice.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.

The latest development highlights ongoing efforts by security forces to tackle kidnapping and improve safety across Benue State.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
