Vice-President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for New York, United States, to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday in Abuja by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).

The session is scheduled to take place from Monday, September 22, to Sunday, September 28.

According to Nkwocha, Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu at the global gathering, where he is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement and take part in the UN high-level general debates as well as other side events.

He further noted that the Vice-President will also unveil Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement during this year’s UN special event on climate.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
