Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has sparked heated discussions across social media following his recent comments on the long-standing controversy of “sex-for-roles” in the Nigerian film industry. In a candid statement, Kosoko appeared to suggest that while no one can be forced into compromising situations for movie roles, some aspiring actors may willingly make such choices to advance their careers.

"If I say I need you to come warm my bed before I can give you a particular movie role and you say you don’t want to, just go, they cannot force you to do that. But if you want that role by all means…," Kosoko stated, implying that the decision ultimately rests with the individual.

His remarks have since ignited mixed reactions, with many calling for more accountability in Nollywood, where allegations of exploitation have been a recurring concern. While some argue that Kosoko was merely speaking the hard truth about the industry’s realities, others believe such statements normalize unethical practices that should be eradicated.

The conversation around sex-for-roles has been a long-standing issue in Nollywood, with several actresses coming forward over the years to expose predatory behaviors. Kosoko, however, also pointed out that many women enter the industry with strong determination and succeed purely on their talent and hard work.

With these revelations making waves online, the debate rages on: Is Nollywood doing enough to protect young talents from exploitation, or has the industry turned a blind eye to a deeply ingrained issue?
