Bilikesu Olagunju, a Nigerian caregiver working in the United Kingdom, was captured on video violently mistreating 88-year-old dementia patient John Attard, just days before his death.

As reported by Mail Online on Monday, June 24, 2024, the incident occurred on December 24, 2022, at Attard’s residence in Bexley, Kent. Olagunju had been employed as a carer for only six days when the abuse happened.

Footage recorded by the victim’s son, Chris Attard, showed Olagunju forcefully undressing the elderly man, threatening him with physical violence, and disregarding his pleas as he repeatedly said she was hurting him.

At one point, she said: “Maybe I will beat you up. I will flog you. I will take you to the GP to get injections. I will call the police on you.”

The disturbing video also captured her pouring marmalade into the man's coffee despite being aware of his diabetic condition, and forcefully dragging him by his arm and collar.

The next day, on December 25, 2022, Mr Attard was found unresponsive with blood on his face. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he remained in a coma and sadly passed away on January 4, 2023.

At the time, Olagunju was employed by Unique Personnel UK. She later pleaded guilty to a charge of ill-treatment or wilful neglect of a person lacking mental capacity.

On June 2024, at Woolwich Crown Court in southeast London, she received a six-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with an order to complete 50 hours of unpaid community service.

Following the court’s decision, Chris Attard called the sentence an “insult,” expressing frustration that the punishment did not reflect the gravity of the abuse. He believes Olagunju’s actions played a direct role in his father's death, though the post-mortem could not confirm this with certainty.

“If we hadn’t installed the cameras, she might still be out there abusing other vulnerable people,” Chris said. “This sentence offers no real deterrent.”
