“SHOULD KIDS BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PARENTS?” – TOOLZO SPARKS DEBATE

Media personality Toolzo is stirring up conversations online after questioning whether children should be obligated to care for their parents in old age.

Taking to Instagram, the OAP shared her personal take, saying she would gladly handle all her mum’s bills if she had the means. She also admitted she expects a bit of support from her own children—affectionately nicknamed Chairman and General—when she gets older.

“The amount of people I’ve spoken to that said no to this question surprised me,” she wrote.
“Is it weird that if I could pick up all my mum’s bills, I would? Likewise, do I expect Chairman and General to look after me? Absolutely to a certain extent.”

Toolzo’s post has since sparked an ongoing cultural debate, especially among young Nigerians, on whether financial responsibility toward one’s parents is an obligation, a cultural norm, or simply a personal choice.

She ended the post by asking followers what they thought:

“Is this too old-fashioned?”

The comment section has been buzzing, with people sharing their opinions on modern parenting, financial independence, and the shifting dynamics of family roles in today’s world.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
