SINGER D4VD PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO TEEN’S MURDER, FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES
US musician David Anthony Burke, popularly known as D4vd, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were discovered months after she went missing.
According to BBC reports, the 21-year-old artist is also facing additional charges, including murder for financial gain and the alleged killing of a witness linked to the investigation.
Burke did not speak during his arraignment at a Los Angeles court on Monday, with his legal team entering the plea on his behalf.
His lawyers maintained his innocence, insisting that the evidence would clear him of wrongdoing and promising a strong defence in court.
Prosecutors alleged that the teenager visited Burke’s Hollywood Hills residence on April 23, 2025, after which she was never seen again.
Her decomposed body was later discovered on September 8 inside the front trunk of a Tesla linked to the singer, which investigators described as a key breakthrough in the case.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the case involved serious allegations, including claims of financial motive and attempts to silence a potential witness.
He described the incident as a devastating case for the victim’s family, noting the emotional toll of the disappearance and discovery.
The victim’s family said they are determined to ensure justice is served and that Celeste’s memory is properly honoured throughout the legal process.
Police officials said the investigation was handled carefully to avoid compromising evidence, with Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell stating that the focus remains on securing justice.
Burke remains in custody without bail as prosecutors continue to pursue charges that could carry the death penalty if he is convicted.
