Essential News:

Nigerian street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of assaulting government officials. The incident happened on February 5, 2025, when officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning visited his bar in Sango-Ota to enforce building regulations.

According to reports, Portable and his associates attacked the officials, leading to a court case. On May 1, 2025, a magistrate court in Abeokuta found him guilty on two counts of assault and obstruction.

The court sentenced him to six months in prison for each count, to run at the same time, and also ordered him to pay a ₦500,000 fine. The judge warned Portable to avoid further public disturbances, especially on social media, as it could affect his bail and legal standing.

His lawyers have said they plan to appeal the ruling, claiming the sentence is too harsh. The case has drawn national attention, with some defending Portable and others calling the judgment a step toward accountability.

This marks a major turning point in the singer’s career, which has been filled with controversies since his breakout hit "Zazoo Zehh" in 2021.
