SIX KILLED, NINE INJURED IN TRAGIC CRASH ON LEKKI-EPE EXPRESSWAY
Tragedy struck on Monday morning along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos State, as a fatal road accident claimed six lives and left nine others injured.
The crash, which occurred at the Ibeju bus stop, involved a blue Volvo FL6 truck and a white Mazda commercial bus with registration number AKD 336YD.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the victims included two men, three women, and a young boy. Another nine passengers—three men and six women—sustained serious injuries, while four others escaped unhurt.
Preliminary investigations revealed that overspeeding, dangerous driving, and route violation were the major causes of the accident.
FRSC operatives quickly responded to the scene, rescuing the injured and rushing them to nearby hospitals for emergency care.
The Lagos State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged motorists to drive with caution. He emphasized that overspeeding remains one of the leading causes of deadly crashes across the country.
While the identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed, the FRSC confirmed that both drivers and passengers were among those affected.
Authorities are appealing to all road users to prioritize safety, obey traffic rules, and avoid reckless driving to prevent further tragedies on Lagos roads.
