SNOOP DOGG SHARES CONCERNS OVER LGBTQ+ THEMES IN KIDS’ MOVIES AFTER LIGHTYEAR EXPERIENCE

Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg has opened up about his concerns regarding LGBTQ+ representation in children’s films, admitting that he now feels hesitant about taking his grandchildren to the movies.

The rapper shared his thoughts during an appearance on the It’s Giving podcast, where he recalled watching Pixar’s Lightyear (2022) with his grandson. The animated Toy Story spinoff, voiced by Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear, features a same-sex couple raising a child—a storyline that sparked both praise and controversy upon its release.

Snoop revealed that his grandson was puzzled by the film and asked questions that caught him completely off guard.

“In the middle of the movie, my grandson asked, ‘Papa Snoop? How can she have a baby with another woman? She’s a woman!’ And I’m thinking, ‘Oh man, I didn’t come in for this. I just came to watch the movie,’” he said.

The rapper admitted that he struggled to explain and left the cinema feeling uneasy.

“It messed me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies now. Y’all are throwing me in the middle of questions I don’t have answers for. These are kids—do we have to show that at this age?” Snoop added.

When it premiered, Lightyear made headlines for including Pixar’s first-ever same-sex kiss, a moment that was initially cut by Disney executives but reinstated after pushback from Pixar staff. The move was praised by many as a step toward inclusivity, while others criticized it, with some countries banning the film altogether.

Chris Evans, who voiced Buzz Lightyear, defended the decision at the time, calling it an important step in normalizing representation.

For Snoop Dogg, however, the issue remains more personal than political. As a grandfather, he admits he is still grappling with how to address the questions such movies raise for children.

“They’re going to ask, and I don’t have the answer,” he said.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
