SOLAR WIRING SPARKS FIRE IN KWARA BUILDING

A room in a building in the Ijooro area of Asa-Dam, Ilorin, Kwara State, was gutted by fire on Tuesday after a spark from solar wiring reportedly ignited combustible materials.

The incident occurred at a building on Oluwalogbon Street, where the Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call and arrived at the scene at about 4:14pm.

Firefighters immediately began operations and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

According to the state fire service, the affected building contains about three-bedroom flats, with the fire limited to one room.

The agency’s preliminary investigation indicated that a spark from the solar wiring caused the fire after coming into contact with combustible materials in the room.

The Chief Fire Officer, Alabi Muhammed, commended the firefighters for their quick response and urged residents to take greater care with solar and electrical installations.

Muhammed advised property owners to engage qualified professionals for solar and electrical work and ensure that damaged or faulty wiring is repaired promptly.

The fire service also urged residents to regularly maintain their solar and electrical installations, warning that poor installation and inadequate maintenance could increase the risk of fire outbreaks.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to responding quickly to emergencies and protecting lives and property across Kwara State.
