SOLDIER GETS ₦500,000 REWARD FOR REJECTING SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER’S BRIBE
The Nigerian Army has rewarded Private Utim Terwase with ₦500,000 after he reportedly rejected a bribe from a suspected kidnapper seeking release.
Military sources said Terwase apprehended the suspect following an attempted escape. Rather than accept the money, he handed the suspect over to the appropriate authorities.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Maxwell Dangana, approved the reward.
Operation spokesperson Captain Polycarp Chinonso Oteh confirmed that Sector 6 Commander Colonel Philimon Malgwi presented it on Dangana’s behalf.
The Army said the payment matched the amount Terwase had allegedly been offered and recognised his honesty, discipline and commitment to duty.
“Rather than compromise his responsibility for personal gain, he upheld the values of honesty, accountability and selfless service,” Dangana said through his representative.
He encouraged other personnel to follow Terwase’s example, adding that the military would continue to recognise professional and ethical conduct.
The report did not identify the suspect or provide further details about the alleged kidnapping offences.
