SOLDIERS ENGAGE BOKO HARAM IN DEADLY CLASH TO PROTECT GWOZA TOWN
Gwoza, Borno State – June 20, 2025
Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai are currently in a fierce battle with armed terrorists believed to be members of Boko Haram or ISWAP, following an attempted attack on Gwoza town in Borno State.
Gwoza, which lies about 136 kilometers from Maiduguri, is near the Mandara Mountains and the Sambisa Forest—areas often used as hideouts by insurgents.
Eyewitnesses said the attack began shortly after the Friday Jummat prayers. Loud gunshots and several explosions were heard in different parts of the town as soldiers quickly took defensive positions to stop the terrorists from entering.
Security forces responded with strong resistance and are actively working to protect the town. Sources say reinforcements have been sent to support the troops already on the ground.
Residents are being urged to remain calm as the military continues efforts to secure lives and restore peace in the area.
