Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed two suspected members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group during a military operation in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The troops also recovered weapons and rustled livestock in separate security operations conducted across Sokoto and Katsina states.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the operations were part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the North-West.
Osoba explained that troops responded to a distress call over an alleged attempt by suspected Lakurawa terrorists to burn a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri village in Tangaza LGA.
“The troops made contact with the terrorists, neutralising two terrorists in the ensuing firefight, while others fled due to overwhelming firepower,” he said.
Following the operation, soldiers reportedly recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
In another operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on patrol intercepted armed men moving with rustled livestock around Danya Bakwai settlement.
“The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon 62 rustled livestock,” Osoba stated.
The recovered animals were later returned to their owners at the palace of the Daddara , Head in Jibia.
The military spokesperson reiterated the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to eliminating terrorism and banditry in the North-West and urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has intensified offensives in Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara and Kebbi states in recent months as part of efforts to curb attacks on communities, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities linked to armed groups operating in the region.
