Tension has emerged within the Accord Party as chairmen from the South-West zone have openly faulted the position of the party’s national chairman, signalling a growing internal disagreement over leadership direction.

The South-West chairmen, in a joint response, disagreed with recent statements credited to the national leadership, arguing that such positions do not reflect the collective stance of stakeholders in the region. They insisted that decisions affecting the party must be based on broader consultation and internal consensus.

According to them, the national chairman’s comments risk deepening divisions within the party at a time when unity is needed to strengthen its structure ahead of future elections. They called for dialogue and reconciliation to prevent further escalation of the dispute.

The regional leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to the Accord Party but stressed the need for transparent leadership and respect for internal party mechanisms. They maintained that the South-West remains a critical bloc whose voice must be adequately represented in national decision-making.

The disagreement has sparked reactions among party members, with some urging calm and others calling for urgent restructuring to address lingering grievances within the party hierarchy.

Party observers say the development reflects ongoing struggles in smaller political parties to manage internal cohesion, especially as political activities gradually build toward future elections.

As of now, the national leadership of the Accord Party has yet to issue an official response to the concerns raised by the South-West chairmen.
