The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that several governors from the South-South and South-East have shifted their political loyalty in support of President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid, even at the expense of their own parties.

Speaking at the 12th Expanded Stakeholders Meeting of the APC in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Yilwatda—represented by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu—noted that the move was driven by the governors’ admiration for President Tinubu’s leadership style and personal character.

According to him, both governors and lawmakers across the southern regions are increasingly rallying behind Tinubu because they believe his governance approach can move the nation forward.

“I am very happy with the South-South geopolitical zone, because all the governors that were in other political parties before have seen the quality of Mr. President’s character. They have abandoned their own political parties to join hands with our great party so that Nigeria can move forward. That is very commendable,” Yilwatda said.

He further stressed that the APC remains open to welcoming new members from other political parties, describing the ruling party as a broad platform for all Nigerians who want to contribute to the country’s growth.

The APC chairman also pointed out that governors from the South-East are following the same path, highlighting the need for unity beyond party lines in order to achieve the common goal of building a stronger Nigeria.

“All the governors are very realistic, very understanding. They have moved on, abandoning their parties, just to make sure that their goal of making Nigeria a greater country is achieved,” he added.

The remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with Tinubu’s supporters intensifying campaigns for his second term.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
