SOWORE UNVEILS N500,000 MINIMUM WAGE, 24-HOUR POWER PLAN FOR 2027
African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has unveiled a series of ambitious proposals ahead of the 2027 presidential election, promising to introduce a monthly living minimum wage of N500,000 if elected president. He also pledged to provide Nigerians with 24-hour electricity and make education free and accessible at all levels.
Sowore made the promises in an interview with Independent, where he outlined the AAC’s agenda for the 2027 election. He argued that Nigerian workers were struggling with inadequate wages while political officeholders continued to receive significantly higher remuneration, saying his proposed wage was aimed at improving workers’ living standards.
Beyond wages and electricity, the former presidential candidate said his administration would focus on expanding access to education, healthcare and housing. He promised to construct one million public mixed-income homes and reform tenancy laws to reduce the pressure of advance rent payments, while also proposing healthcare as a right rather than a service available only to those who can afford it.
Sowore also said his government would pursue an aggressive industrialisation programme, expand agricultural production and processing, rebuild infrastructure and create what he described as dignified employment opportunities. On security, he promised reforms to the police and other security agencies, better compensation for personnel and increased use of technology, including drones and advanced intelligence systems.
The AAC candidate further pledged to tackle corruption by recovering public resources allegedly stolen by political officeholders, insisting that Nigeria’s wealth should benefit its citizens. Sowore is among the presidential candidates formally announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 election.
